Rick Garretson Hired as New Chandler High School Football Coach

Chandler, Arizona–Chandler High School is proud to welcome Rick Garretson as its next head football coach.  Coach Garretson brings with him a wealth of experience both as a player and as a coach.  Coach Garretson is excited to continue the winning tradition that has been established at Chandler High School.

Coach Rick Garretson grew up in Westminster, California and attended Servite High School in Anaheim, California. As a player, Coach Garretson was an All CIF Receiver for the Servite Friars in 1973.  After high school, Coach Garretson attended San Diego State University on a football scholarship.

After his time at San Diego State, Coach Garretson began his coaching career.  Coach Garretson has 26 years of high school coaching experience, including coaching wide receivers for 1 year at Westminster High School, and 16 years coaching at Servite High School. He helped develop both wide receivers and quarterbacks during his time at Servite, and served as the Friars Offensive Coordinator from 1995-2004.

Coach Garretson came to Chandler High School in 2010.  He was hired by former CHS head coach Jim Ewan to develop the wide receivers. Coach Garretson then became the quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator under Shaun Aguano in 2012.  Coach Garretson was named as the offensive coordinator of the Wolves in 2016. Over the past three years, Rick and his offensive staff have developed the Wolves into a nationally recognized team, and in doing so, he has helped the Wolves capture four state championships, including three consecutive Arizona Division I/6A state championships over the last three seasons.  In addition to the Wolves’ four state titles, Coach Garretson and staff have helped secure two Geico Bowl Series Championships with victories over Valdosta (GA) and Miami Northwest (FL).

Rick has been married to his beautiful wife Wendy for the past 30 years. The Garretsons have three wonderful children: Lauren (27), Darell (24) and Mackensie (22).

Coach Garretson hopes to continue the winning tradition of CHS football by implementing his own personal coaching philosophies including “prepare to win” and “worry about us”.
